The Fund Admin Manifesto
Draft — to be replaced/validated with the final manifesto copy.
Every fund runs on two sets of records. There's the story GPs tell their LPs — the portal, the reports, the capital account statements. And there's the books behind it — kept somewhere else, by someone else, in a system that was never designed to talk to the first one.
That seam is where funds lose time, accuracy and trust. Numbers get re-keyed. Statements wait on emails. A quarter closes, and nobody can say with certainty that what the LP sees is what the ledger says.
Today we're closing that seam. Vessel Fund Admin puts your fund's books on the platform your LPs already use.
What we believe
1. One source of truth, not two
The ledger and the LP experience should be the same system. When a capital call is posted, it should land in the trial balance and in each LP's capital account at the same time — not after a reconciliation.
2. Accounting should be auditable by default
Double-entry, every time. Every journal entry traceable, every period lockable, every balance exportable. Trust is built on records you can show, not on promises.
3. Close should be a cadence, not a crisis
Monthly periods, posted entries, locked books. When the period is closed, it stays closed — and your statements are ready because the ledger already is.
4. Switching shouldn't mean starting over
Your history comes with you. Opening balances, capital account statements, audited financials and LPAs move over from your current administrator, and a parallel run proves the numbers tie before you switch.
What's in Vessel Fund Admin
Ledger — a double-entry general ledger with trial balance, journal entries, investment schedule and chart of accounts.
Bank feeds — connect U.S. and Canadian bank accounts and match transactions to journal entries.
Capital accounts — opening to closing NAV for every LP: contributions, distributions, expenses, unrealized gains and losses, and carry.
Invoices, captured — drop in a vendor invoice and get a draft journal entry for review.
Period close — set a monthly cadence and lock each period once every entry is posted.
Financial statements — balance sheet, income statement, partners' capital and cash flows, straight from the ledger.
Documents & migration — one place to bring your history over and track what's covered.
