Netley's rapid scale-up — quadrupling firepower in less than 12 months — implies institutional allocators are willing to underwrite a dedicated strategy before the tertiary market has matured into a distinct asset class with its own performance benchmarks. That's a bet on structural growth in secondaries liquidity, not just on Netley's execution.

The open question is deployment discipline at this pace. Tertiaries depend on pricing dislocations that arise from complexity and seller urgency, but those advantages compress as competition for deal flow intensifies. Netley will need to demonstrate that $1.2bn can be put to work without bidding away the illiquidity premium that justifies the strategy in the first place. The firm's ability to maintain underwriting standards as it scales from specialist to platform will determine whether this raise marks the start of a new secondaries subcategory or a short window of LP enthusiasm that closes once returns normalize.
