Challenges
Disjointed content distribution: Afore's fundraising materials were spread across various platforms, resulting in a fragmented experience for potential investors and making it difficult to highlight important content.
Lack of mobile responsiveness: Traditional dataroom software often presented fundraising materials in non-mobile-responsive formats, such as PDFs, which were not appealing or user-friendly for individual investors accustomed to sleek, mobile-optimized applications.
Inefficient due diligence process: The absence of a unified platform for all fundraising content led to additional back-and-forth communication during due diligence, consuming significant time and resources and potentially causing delays in the fundraising cycle.
The Challenge
Afore had been quite successful at securing commitments from large institutional investors and was looking to further expand its LP base. Standing out with new institutional investors that were less familiar with pre-seed was important and it was hard to do so using traditional datarooms used by all other fund managers pitching these new institutions. Afore also had great content but it was spread across different platforms (e.g., Loom for its event videos, dataroom software for documents) with different logins; there was no way to effectively draw the attention of institutions to content outside of the dataroom, some content would be ignored and there would be additional back and forth during due diligence as a result. Additionally, Afore wanted to leverage its network of individual investors to attract new investors but fundraising materials in non-mobile-responsive pdfs listed in dataroom software that resembled a file explorer was unlikely to woo new individuals accustomed to sleek mobile applications.

Using Vessel, Gaurav and his team were able to collaborate to put together digital and mobile-responsive fundraising decks with compelling visuals (e.g., including Loom videos) and narratives, all while retaining standard features offered by traditional dataroom software such as creating a repository of documents, permission controls, watermarking, activity analytics, etc.
Afore also benefitted from Vessel’s intuitive sharing features, which allowed investors to easily share Afore's opportunities within their networks while allowing Afore to retain control on who gets access to what.
